Course: DP4 Festival Stage
We designed a festival stage to be located on the quayside at Mount Stuart Graving Docks in Cardiff Bay to provide a platform for musical and theatrical performances for those attending The National Eisteddfod 2025.
This included providing secondary outdoor staging facilities that were observable and accessible to a dynamic number of diverse spectators and flexible ‘platform’ for a range of performers (maximizing their visibility and audibility, and spectator sightlines). This also aimed to enhance the design of Cardiff’s public realm and experience it offers visitors to the Bay, through the introduction of a high quality semi- permanent structure.
We also considered the environmental impact of our scheme by adopting design strategies such as designing with a palette of low embodied energy materials, thinking about how its materials might be re‐used and considering passive heating and ventilation strategies ensuring performers are comfortable when ‘back‐stage’. In addition, we explored how rainwater could be harvested for sanitary use, and ‘grey’ and ‘foul’ waters dispersed.
