Llandaff Intergenerational Arts Hub

Llandaff, Cardiff, Wales, CF, United Kingdom

Project Description

A performance arts and visual crafts hub

Our given brief was to create a performance arts hub, for primary use by Llandaff Cathedral School, alongside a suitable community scheme of our own choosing. My proposal combines the performance arts programme with crafts to form a cohesive arts hub to benefit members of the community of all ages.

My proposal intends to create safe spaces for intergenerational cohesion between the children of Llandaff Cathedral School and the large proportion of elderly residents in the area. It utilises water to both control movement through the site to safeguard the vulnerable groups, and to create a tactile, visual and audible element to enhance the cognitive and wellbeing benefits of the building programme.

The Cathedral School already have access to a formal theatre, and the Cathedral for choral purposes, so my performance intervention had to supplement this in a valuable way rather than be an unnecessary duplicate. This prompted the creation of rehearsal studios, a green room and an informal rehearsal and performance space.
