This project doesn't just aim to house a group of musician's, it attempts to give the residents a platform on which to perform - giving them a space to practise performing new music and giving the community a place to come together and listen.<\/p>\n<p>Cathays (where the site is situated), is a highly residential area with limited gathering spaces meaning the community often feels very disconnected and isolated. The home being retrofitted sits directly next door to a pub which has a rare outdoor public seating area, therefore, I decided to utilise this space as the seating area where people could sit and watch the performance.<\/p>\n<p>The back of the home has many onlooking windows from neighbouring homes, making the home feel particularly exposed and uncomfortable. Therefore, the new design instead incorporates a courtyard instead of a back garden to help reduce privacy concerns whilst also letting a greater volume of light enter the centre of the home.<\/p>\n<p>I propose this project with the intention of bridging the gap between the residents of this area.
