The Play Raft will create spaces for newborns, toddlers, school children, and teenagers to play, learn and grow in a safe urban landscape. Designing for the safety of women and children is fundamental to the catalyst of change The Play Raft promotes. Designing out dangerous environments from the urban landscape will encourage a building and community that is safe for women and children at all hours of the day.

The programme was developed to ensure a playful architecture and environment that is safe for women and children, with sustainability and flood-proof design at its core. The Play Raft is a public building that is needed within Bristol to address issues of social sustainability, and the wider climate crisis. It is an example of how building safe and playful architecture that encourages interactivity and engagement with nature will encourage an understanding of the importance of sustainability and the issues that cities face with climate change.
