Project Description

The Miners Welfare Center

The Beacon of Resolven represents the Resolven community and the rich architectural history of the MWR building. The proposal centres around 3 major goals.

1. Re-opening the doors of the historic theatre that is symbolic of the Resolven community values and history.

2. Driving the sustainability agenda through the creation of gathering space by creating a rooftop extension that functions as a co-garden, co-kitchen and event space, as well as improved building functions by redeveloping the building envelope and integrated passive design solutions.

3. The MWR building is transformed into a representative figure, embodying the values of the community and the vision for the future. The building that has a large historic importance is reimagined to be a reference for future developments in the immediate context.

MArch

Hi! My name is Rokas. I have recently finished my Bachelor's degree in Architecture studies at WSA and am looking for a new opportunity to further develop my skills. I'm a driven and hardworking individual, constantly pushing to build upon my skills and knowledge. With a particular interest in developing ties with the community and providing public space. As I have learned through my academic and professional experience that good architecture is defined by the public. Therefore, I have a keen interest in how people experience architecture. I have an interest in preservation, renewal, and modern sustainable strategies in the industry. I believe we as architects have the responsibility to bridge the current and the future, whilst preserving and valuing the historic.
