Project Description

A visitor and educational centre for hempcrete production

My Project is a visitor and educational centre for hempcrete production located in Abergavenny on an existing community orchard site and industrial park located near the Abergavenny Castle and Museum. On site, the growth and production of hempcrete insulation blocks will take place in the factory space. There is a visitor centre and cafe connected for visitors to learn about the process behind hempcrete insulation which will be used to build the project itself.

The centre is an example of what can be done with the product that is manufactured there. An aspiration is to make Abergavenny the new national location for the purchase and manufacture of hempcrete for building companies across the UK. In addition to this, a main concept idea for the project is to be a place for school trips for children as well as university/college students, in the hope that the centre will encourage more students and people of all ages to take an interest in architecture and the use of sustainable construction materials.
