A Palace for the people of Caldicot

The youth centre on the site is used infrequently and is regarded as a small, cold space, and, the existing public square is regarded as quite dreary and lacks character - the space isn’t used a great deal and it has more potential considering it is in the heart of Caldicot. Goal - Develop existing Youth centre and public square so it has more purpose and place in the community and to create a space for all of Caldicot residents and people passing through to enjoy.

Key spaces: - Community hall: A space for the youths, elderly and in-between to come together. Large hall space for sports activities (Bench ball, Karate, Badminton, Dance, Table tennis), group activities (Hosting events, AA meetings, local council meetings) and performances (Dance, Music, Sport competitions, Comedy acts). Can act like a open community hall space for all of Caldicots residents. - Youth centre: Existing Youth centre on site is registered to a charity ‘The zone’ - maintain there being a youth centre on site but redevelop it into a space with more purpose.

Social space designated to the youths that they’ll want to use. Include a garden space. - Creative arts centre: A creative arts space to encourage creativity in the community. For all ages. There is a pre-school and primary school around (maximum 350m from site) arts centre can be used by the schools. Various art classes can be held in the centre for all people of the community. - Art Centre: A art centre for people to visit which is adjacent to the public square and across from the Community hall and Youth centre. There can be a cafe in the entrance space, three art galleries (Caldicot gallery, Main gallery, Garden gallery), a creative arts centre and a garden gallery seating space. - Caldicot gallery: Space for the people of Caldicot to show their art - art work produced from youth centre/creative arts space (children and adults), general local art. - Main gallery: Welsh artists, local famous art work - with a focus on Caldicot/Welsh pride, history of Caldicot art work etc.

More professional level art. - Garden gallery: Steel works sculptures, statues etc to create a walk though garden. // Roof materials: Seamless seam zinc cladding. Walls facing public square material: Red cedar horizontal cladding. Walls facing away from public square: Grey natural stone block cladding.
