Project Description

Retrofit

This proposed extension now connects the building to sunlight and daylight through large glazed openings. A carefully designed structure constructed of local timber supports the extension and natural timber fibre acoustic panels to contrast the acoustic properties of the now high thermal mass quarry tile floor. Bespoke furniture has potential to be used as seating and shelves or completely deconstructed for increased floor space.

The existing brick façade becomes exposed, with large openings in line with views to the garden and limewashed to increase lightness whilst maintaining breathability. A soldier course of tile acts as a threshold of functionality between the circulation and activity space where birch ply flooring sheets begin, changing grain direction by 90 degrees through the SW to NW views through the building.
