Project Description
Landscape
'The wider context of the site consists of the Afen forest to the north of the site; a dense area of coniferous trees. This vegetation can be viewed from the Resolven Miners Welfare and I feel it should be celebrated and highlighted as a characteristic of the context that the building sits within.
The natural environment surrounding the site is the oldest element that the budling is associated with. It has witnessed the history of Resolven as it overlooks the town; it is the deepest connection to the history of the town and its people.
The community of Resolven is at the heart of this proposal. Connecting the community building with the landscape offers a deep connection to the roots of the town and it’s people as the landscape is the closest link to the past.
Creating a ‘Green Carpet’ to access Resolven’s forgotten theatre places meaning on connecting with the surroundings and time spent close to nature endeavors to boost the wellbeing of the community. The boundary of this proposal is blurred as it is part of the physical landscape of the town and the wider Neath Valley.
