Project Description
Smokery
nce the staple port of Wales; Carmarthen has historically centred around the river as an integral cog within the agricultural industry. Late 20th Century industrialisation created a shift in the dynamic of the Quay as the railway took hierarchy.
Industrialisation of the agricultural industry and introduction of cars to the town have generated un-forgiving pollution of the Tywi. The has had direct impact on the river as a productive food source, with PH levels sometimes 1.5 below the minimum requirement to sustain biodiversity.
This thesis aims to re-establish the town’s connection with the river and celebrate the Tywi’s fishing network as a tool for creating awareness of ecological impacts on the river.
Architectural intervention will seek to re-define the riverside as a hub for river trade and recreation, whilst addressing pollutants within the town through landscape management.
