Sustainable Mega Buildings
Within the famed Broadgate commercial district in the City of London, the Broadgate Tower and 201 Bishopsgate command attention. It has 35 storeys of offices totaling about 37000 square metres. The project is divided into three parts, the first of which involves a thorough examination of the building's microclimate, surrounds, existing service systems, and function. Beginning with phase two is where optimisation takes place. With the aid of the study completed in the first step, solar radiation, wind follow, weather in various seasons, and temperature, the fabric of the structure is initially optimised. Beginning with the form optimisation window wall ratio (WWR) and Shadings devices, are selected using several simulations on the Design Builder software. Then comes the material and glazing U values.
The service systems' optimisation makes up the third level. Numerous HVAC systems are investigated and evaluated by various literature studies in order to choose the optimum, least energy-intensive system for the building. The building is divided into zones, and multiple simulations are used to determine the best zoning. The different HVAC systems are placed in these zones in various combinations once the zones have been decided upon in order to determine which system uses the least amount of energy. The building's ultimate service system is identified before the installation of the renewable systems. Numerous reliable ventilation techniques are also being incorporated into the structure. In areas where there is a high need for electricity, solar PV panels are introduced. Lastly, the building's embodied carbon and the energy is calculated.
