The aim of this module is to introduce students to the use of algorithmic thinking for design enquiry. It extends the concepts and techniques of design investigations to include principles of parametric and generative design. This module allows students to investigate several parametric and generative design patterns and create algorithmic solutions and workflows that address them. The module enables them to understand both general concepts and specific computational algorithms. In addition, they gain an understanding of principles and methods of architectural design and representation.
On completion of this module, students should be able to:
- Creatively integrate digital processes and techniques into the design process.
- Use algorithms to generate, manipulate, or optimise architectural proposals.
- Critically evaluate the appropriateness of digital techniques in the design process.
- Model aspects of an architectural project using a 3D modelling system.
