Regeneration of EX Mira Lanza

Project statement

When social resources are (illegally) occupied by minorities, when the community environment is not conducive to the use of social resources, and when people with different social and cultural backgrounds meet, ambivalence and changes are inevitable. Sometimes, this situation can be found in many cities, in Phnom Penh, residents living on different floors of Borei Keila have conflicts due to unfair social resources, but they also share symbiotic spaces. Scavengers work in the garbage mountain in Steung Meanchey, at the bottom of the society, relying on garbage to make a living, and can also share schools, housing and rights with the help of social organizations. In Rome, the Roma population occupied ex Mira Lanza, a land that should be used by the public as a public resource, resulting in the desertion and waste of the area, ambivalence generated, and the story begins…

The Rationale of Operation

At present, art districts and creative parks are becoming more and more popular, and the project of combining factory, agriculture and commerce is considered to have good prospects for development. Refer to part of references and observation during field trip, a regeneration project on wasted valuable land has emerged. This project based on using structures that maximize the maintenance and preservation of historic buildings aims to create a new destination that brings nature, culture and entertainment into one comprehensive landscape. Applying limited intervention and low impact design strategy,  use the spacial condition to give full play to the multi-functional use of the space.

The final result leads to a unit of historical buildings and pleasant landscape, guided by the research question: how to Active the community and vacant land, renew heritage buildings under the coordination of community waste disposal and planned urban agricultural projects? This is a project that contributes to the regeneration of abandoned sites and the reuse of heritage buildings. Under suitable conditions, it is to renovate old buildings mainly based on agriculture and waste disposal industries. Using reference documents and information from field research, from the perspective of urban and architectural aesthetics, create a comprehensive project for the sustainable development of environmental, economic and social relations.

Personal reflection

I have been studying cautiously with continuous exploration in unit D. The learning atmosphere in our group is always good, and the leader’s guidance is becoming more and more clear after a couple of crits. For me, it is an experience and the shaping of self-learning consciousness.  It made me realize the importance of critical and purposeful thinking. The learning outcome in unit D and my study attitude would be useful even after I leave the British,  It will have an impact on my future career planning and study life, good impact of course.
