Tottenham Hydroponic Farm

Site Planimetric

This planimetric drawing was created for an in depth site plan. All the buildings on site 7 have been rebuilt in a similar style. There was however one existing building, which dates back to 1911, that I was drawn to with its dominating, distinct and characterful façade. It is this building that I have chosen to redevelop as a hydroponic farm for my final project. In brief my proposed solution for my unit “Productive City” is focused on providing a sustainable, community based, commercial solution that embraces the existing structure. These principles brought the concept of establishing a new industry to Tottenham in the form of hydroponic farming to fruition.

Exploded Axonometric

This image indicates the utilisation of the west facade and the existing steel frame structure which has allowed for the continuation of an environmentally focused project. This retention was a conscious decision to not only showcase the history of the building in its industrial use but also the ability to redesign and repurpose an existing structure for a new and relevant purpose. Adjustments were made to the front façade to improve circulation and with the addition of a sympathetic canopy to bring the building forward and cater for shelter, allowing activities to take place at the front area of the building in all weather conditions. The internal structures of the A – frame are the most economical in a commercial farm whereas the 2 levelled beds for the Community Allotments are better suited to cater for public use.
