Course: Unit 12 A Year of Painting Flowers
Our unit will work to a specific brief and client – an artist based in London – who purchased a small piece of land in Swansea, with the intention of building, or adapting, a small warehouse in which to keep his collection of artworks, consisting mostly of paintings and drawings as well as a very small number of sculptural pieces.
In light of the ongoing pandemic, the client decided that they would like somewhere outside of Central London that they can work and has revised their brief to include a small residential component, a studio space and the demand that the storage component of the scheme be capable of serving as an impromptu exhibition space. The client is also potentially interested in providing accommodation for artists visiting from other countries, should they need to spend two weeks in isolation.
Our students will be asked to respond to this brief, making careful choices about how to reconcile the client brief with the context in which they will be working.
