Course: MSc Sustainable Mega Buildings

The ‘Sustainable Mega Building’ course is one of the distinct courses worldwide emphasizing the sustainability, energy use & environmental design of building with a strong focus on large-scale buildings (i.e., high-rise, airport, hospitals, etc.). Due to the economic advancement, the emergence of the high-rise building has resulted in increased energy demand and being heavily serviced; energy consumption is crucial for the sustainability approach. Previously, sustainability in small-scale buildings has been emphasized briefly, and many courses have been developed around this. However, sustainability in large scale buildings is new in practice.

The program adopts research and an evidence-based approach, including extensive building performance simulations, mentored by experts who have extensive knowledge in industry or research in relevant fields along with external industrial practitioners. After completing the course, students demonstrate knowledge and understanding of principles and concepts of sustainability (environmental, social, and economic) in the context of large-scale building planning and design and take a critical position in comparing and assessing environmental design approaches of mega-buildings. In addition, after completing the course, students can implement their knowledge in industry or research in the architectural or engineering field, with a specialization of sustainability, focusing on large-scale buildings.
