Studio 3: A new identity for Gregynog estate
Studio three were invited to spend a year of study on the Gregynog estate. Historically the home of art collectors Gwendoline and Daisy Davies, and more recently a conference venue and retreat, Gregynog is in need of a new identity. During semester one, a range of different types of housing were analysed, to open up the estate to a wider range of users.
During semester two, two distinct briefs were explored. The first brief called for the existing library to be transformed into a literature centre and archive, by developing the idea of the building as a vehicle for storytelling. The second brief called for a Terroir Centre for Regional Studies on the estate; a mixed use building with a focus on championing local food production and the culinary arts.
