Studio 4: A centre for land and water
Studio four spent their year of study in Saltford, on the banks of the river Avon. In recent years, Saltford has evolved a vibrant community that supports young creatives and the presence of the river enables different modes of inhabitation to take place. During semester one, the studio explored the challenge of locating new homes near, or within, the flood plain.
For semester two, studio four were tasked with designing a new community hub for Saltford that simultaneously straddles the land and the water. This being with a specific focus on developing a nuanced relationship between the natural and built environment - creating a new public facility that engages with the flow of the adjacent river.
