Project Description
a new centre to reconnect and revitalise Pontrhydyfen
The concept of new normal/ new rural will be developed and explored in the context of historically bustling town Pontrhydyfen.
Inspired from the early stage of research, I am interested in the idea of rural idyll. This project aims to explore the rural idyll imagination and develop a project for dwellings and facilities to encourage and allow the community to thrive with increased opportunity for remote working.
The proposal takes the advantage of the existing elements: the romance (the rural) and the rationality(the ruin of industrialisation) with the British everyday life - public house- to create a new imagination of rural idyll in the 21st century. From dwelling scale to community scale, the design strategies were embedded in each element and the design process: rural as a life style; restoring the nostalgia; and inventing a more sustainable and ecological life.
The new imagination of rural idyll enables to regenerate the deprivation in Pontrhydyfen and discuss the possibility of a new hybrid world in the British rural area.
