Project Description

Incorporating a fully functioning, sustainable and core project, (pub), within a progressing area filled with student accommodation

The majority of my themes and influences have come from my experience within the area itself and from pubs and clubs I have been to, these took place without me realising to begin with. Once I understood what I wanted to achieve I took inspiration from specific, well researched precedents that I knew would make my project more successful if done well and tried to combine everything and create one fully functioning project.

I am looking at these themes and influences to make a successful project in the area of Bristol Temple Meads. Understanding what is necessary and what specific attributes you need to reach a certain level is essential. I carried on working towards my end goal for my project and the theme itself began to develop and take over the project. I think without my certain influences throughout my work my project would be massively different and would not be as successful.

I achieved my proposal by re-using materiality around the site from destroyed buildings and locally sourcing the rest of the materiality through local distributors. Due to the future proposals surrounding my project all consisting of brickwork aesthetically and then past and present buildings being predominantly steel, the combination of the two seems to work well. Creating and maintaining a relationship with the natural features and commercial features as one was the main aim, establishing an area that links the two diverse spectrums of society.

Looking back on my project, I am happy with how it came out and how I have portrayed my ideas. The functionality of the building is consistent and the project has the feeling as though it could function in society today. The one thing I would want to change is something aesthetic, instead of creating a steel framed shed to maybe be a little more adventurous and create something that wasn’t in uniform with the surrounding area. But overall, I am happy with the work I produced.
