Project Description
Reactive 'culinary kiosk' to surrounding public
The brief required an adaptable, sustainable kiosk through which Welsh/Welsh fusion culinary culture could be celebrated.
A strong focus I adopted from these requirements was the need to improve the public realm, hence I have considered both current and future stakeholders, considering attachments from the past and perspectives on forthcoming global developments.
The surrounding metal frame of the Welsh Cake kiosk (whose colours, form and construction are directly inspired by those of cranes around the Cardiff waterfront) is used as adaptable seating and shelter. This is facilitated by concertina seating which can be extended from the structure.
Adaptation is further seen after kiosk use; the wooden, temporary kitchen and toilet spaces are removed, leaving the steel frame to be used as a playground and public garden.
