MA Urban Design

As cities continually face the need to adapt and respond to evolving forms, forces, functions, and desires, ‘Transit Urban Design’ emerges as a pivotal phenomenon. This 2022-2023 academic year, our postgraduate MA Urban Design (MAUD) programme at Cardiff University has delved into the realm of Transit Urban Design. The MAUD programme, jointly delivered by the Welsh School of Architecture and the School of Geography and Planning at Cardiff University, is one of the largest postgraduate programmes of its kind, bringing together the collective expertise of both schools.

Our students aimed to address the challenge of transforming car-dependent urban environments by encouraging sustainable mobilities with a particular focus on shaping places surrounding transit nodes and corridors. With a focus on one of the key strategic sites in Cardiff, our urban design studios adopted a multiscale approach, exploring the intricate relationships between various aspects of urban design. Throughout this process, students worked towards creating an urban design portfolio that effectively communicates their analyses, spatially grounded and contextually responsive interventions, using a range of visual presentations.

Join us in this exhibition as we celebrate the creative urban design projects by our talented students. Experience first-hand how Transit Urban Design can shape our cities, offering sustainable alternatives and enhancing the quality of urban life.
