Project Description

Apartment buildings with at least 20 units

The objective of the project is to develop a housing complex based on one of the four Cardiff-based sites recommended by the instructors. My preferred location is in Churchill Way, one of Cardiff Central's busiest business districts. St. David's Centre, Cardiff International Arena, and Bridge Exchange are just a few of the numerous, significant buildings that surround the site, suggesting that traffic in that area is dense.

Currently, NCP is running the location as a parking lot; there are five NCP parking lots in Cardiff; in fact, another NCP parking lot is located around 200 metres away from the existing location, which has led me to consider there might be too many NCP parking spaces. The current site is a level area with no existing structures that serves as an open parking lot with about 131 parking spaces. In addition to cars, people may access the site by bus, bicycle, and, of course, walking, making it an ideal location to take into account for a nearby design.

As at least 20 apartment units must be completed within, the concept is being designed as a high-rise apartment block. Through research, it was discovered that the average family size in Cardiff tends to be 3–4 people, but due to Cardiff is overflowing with students, placing a studio typology among the apartment block seemed to be beneficial, resulting in 5 apartment units per floor: two 2 bed apartments, two 3 bed apartments and one studio typology. Due to the inner streets' requirement of sunlight, the plan includes two apartment buildings, one of which is fifteen stories and the other of which is eight stories.

Within the concept, there will be a ground floor that is open to all, with stores like a cafe and a supermarket, to increase human abortion and possibly local income. Above this floor, there will be a deck floor that acts as a chill zone for people to escape their surroundings, with tables placed here, and the apartment buildings will be positioned above these two floors.
