Project Description
The Ethiopian Embassy into Rome
Using the research from our semester 1 unit publication, this scheme adopts multiple characteristics from both traditional palazzi and Villa's within Rome in order to successfully integrate itself to the Site of the Porta Latina Gate, a sacred boundary of Rome.
Dealing with issues of world heritage, humanist values and reconciliation, my scheme is regimented with three different functioning spaces.
The first is Casa Emahoy - an entertaining space for guests where diplomatic events are held named after the great Ethiopian Jazz influencer Emahoy Tsegué-maryam Guèbrou. The building included a tower viewpoint over the sacred Aurelian wall to ensure a full connection to the wider City.
The second is a functional embassy building, perpendicular with street, that deals with key diplomatic logistics and every day issues.
Finally, a reflective garden space with a light chapel where people visit and can ruminate on the two countries troubled past.
