Project Description
The Urban Stage
Before designing this project, I carried out some site analysis. I divided the area into six categories based on the type of buildings in the area. In addition to this, stations, car parks, cycle paths and footpaths were analysed to ensure that I sited the building in a suitable location. Once the sketch model was completed, I identified issues such as the division of the area and the efficient use of the area, which I divided into modules based on the function of the different areas. I redesigned my building on the basis of these modules.
I wanted to leave enough area for the stage, both for the festival and for long-term use. On the basis of the second sketch model I added a railing on the ground floor and made a ladder so that people could go up and watch the performance. Again, people can sit on seats or stand on the floor to watch. Following the path of the sun, I placed the model in such a way that light could enter the room and also shine through the gaps in the roof onto the stage.
The material I chose is a combination of steel and stone, which is very strong in the structure of the house, ensuring quality and safety, and secondly it is very fast to build, flexible and adaptable. My design looks like a figure of eight in plan and also like an infinity symbol. This is why I have named it 'Infinity', which I feel shows its appearance in the most direct way
When designing the layout, when entering through the main doors, the area to the left is the lighting room. I set it directly opposite the stage so that I could keep an eye on the stage, adjust the lighting etc. Directly opposite the lighting room is the storage room for storage and to the left are two toilets, separate for men and women. To the right is the facilities room where the dancers change, do their make-up and rest, and upstairs is the meeting room with a small work station where you can make coffee etc.
