Project Description
A place for meeting and exchange
The project connects the port with a new opportunity to develop a town called the Parrog Centre. The narrative can be interpreted by both the local and the traveller as it aims to provide a place for both groups, create a "lost town", and form a moment thus reinstating the identity of Goodwick. It does this by stringing them all through an existing walk called the Parrog which extends from the port, along the coast towards Fishguard a neighbouring town.
The aim for this is to also encourage alternative ways of transport than cars like bikes (integration of bike lanes) and the ferry/ cruise.
With overhanging roofs and rainwater collection, the project takes into consideration the idea of Goodwick as a place of rain as well as its current identity as a seaside town. The overhanging roofs provide intimate places to stop when walking providing temporary shelter.
With new landscaping of the surrounding land around the Parrog Centre, the place becomes a public square with specialised programmes in between putting people first. The narrative begins with a dine-at-the-port restaurant located within the existing port serving local cuisine. Taking a bike from the port, they cycle along the coast taking views arriving at the Parrog centre where they can stop and experience Goodwick through each building, food, art, produce etc.
Overall, it will define Goodwick and encourage the development of the town and its connection with the sea.
