Project Description

An Urban Stage

The 'dancing man' was inspired by Welsh clog dancing which is one of the eisteddfod festival performances. I focused on Welsh clog dancing because it integrates tricks into the dance making it unique compared to other step dances.

Taking inspiration from the works of Etienne-Jules Marey's, I studied the dance and split the jumping trick into 9 segments used as kinetic cladding.

The two main materials used are reinforced concrete for the structure (concrete makes the structure bold and monolithic) and reclaimed timber for the cladding.

The building is a spiral form. The building’s form is a spiral that gradually rises resulting in interesting geometries on each elevation.
