Project Description

Urban Design

Intergenerational design does more than enable people of different generations to occupy the same spaces. They also generate opportunities for meaningful engagement between the generations. Intergenerational relationships can serve as a powerful form of social influence, informing people about lifestyle behaviours that can improve their health and motivating them to make health-related lifestyle changes. The safe and supporting environments needed for a “healthy place” intersect with the safe and supportive environments that we need for ‘healthy youth development” (Kaplan and Haider 2015).

Both the age groups need places to play and be active and have access to affordable healthy foods. The vision is to create an inclusive, thriving, and healthy urban centre that fosters meaningful intergenerational interactions. This will be achieved by thoughtful integration of play spaces, providing access to healthy food options, and implementing age-inclusive infrastructure where people of all ages can connect, learn, and grow together. The overarching goal is to provide an environment where individuals from diverse age groups can coexist and flourish, thereby encouraging community engagement while advancing the cause of transit urban design.
