Project Description
Festival Stage
For my festival stage I wanted to create a building that facilitates social interaction, has multiple functions through the use of the different stages and reflects the industrial history of Cardiff Bay.
The main stage would host events for larger audiences like Eisteddfod. For a range of performers Musicians, bands, orchestras, choirs and dancers. Users can take advantage of the roof level where backup dancers/singers can use it. The secondary stage can be used for smaller events for performers that do not need the larger stage and acoustics with the audience congregating on the seating area, the roof or the observation deck. The amphitheatre creates a more intimate as it is more enclosed from nearby buildings. When no events are taking place the area can be used for choir practice for example.
The observation deck allows users to look at the views as it extends further and is elevated higher from the dock encouraging tourists to the place throughout the day. It also adds visual continuity to the historic ship design and creates a circular centre for the amphitheatre.
The final design allows for a building that can be used throughout the whole year and reflects the historical past of Cardiff.
