Project Description
Designing a community hub for all of Treherbert's animated beings, everything from people to small fauna and big flora.
Inclusivity, co-existence and everyday joy, celebrating the wonderful vibrancy of everything possible to their own scale and territories.
The study and understanding of 'territories' was key to this unit and I understood it as the ever-changing, animated negotiation of beings. This led happily to thinking about each being individually (and their points of intersection) and how they should be considered in the design.
I used animatics at various points of the process to capture a feeling that I wished to design for. I approached a lot of the work through the eyes of an animator and followed how they set up a narrative, a scene, to create my proposal. Mixing this approach with architectural studies, such as Townscape, created a blend of mediums that I found worked in my favour for the themes addressed.
This has been an enjoyable project for me as I have found a way of working that suits my design style. It is not as rigid as previous approaches I have tried and it allowed a sensitivity to how the proposal would be used that I have not had previously.
Community Engagement
NUMBER OF PEOPLE ENGAGED
PROJECT TIMESCALE
Unit 3 ran two specified community involvement events, but we conferred with the people more than this. At the first event, we ran three activities to get to know the people of Treherbert, their fondest memories and what they wanted for their future. At the second, we ran two of these activities again and also showcased our work to the public there to receive comments and feedback, but also to share our vision for the live project.
Anne-Marie Howick
(she/her)
Hi all! My name is Anne-Marie and I was born and raised in Cheshire, England. Throughout my three years of study, I have found a particular interest in the way in which we approach architectural design. As a tactile learner, I enjoy working with my hands to create models, hand drawings and more traditional forms of "animation". I hope to continue finding new and interactive ways to present how I think through challenges going forward.
