Computational Methods for Tall Buildings

This thesis is about exploring the computational and parametric world of architecture by creating organic, functional structures. Set within an accessible setting where Cardiff Bay and City center are approx. 15 minutes away, the Infinity Tower captures and reflects this location especially through the key design feature, a dynamic exoskeleton structure that allows for large, expensive units with incredible views where city, architecture and setting can be enjoyed.

It focuses on a residential and commercial building that engages with the area by attracting people to the site, bringing them together to experience Cardiff through a different perspective.

This project aims to respond to the unity and interaction between different cultures and ethnicities by providing public spaces such as cafes, restaurant, commercial spaces and sky lounge/bar to deliver a rich experience and engage to the setting. From short-term studio apartments and half-floor residencies to full floor penthouses, it aims to ensure that it can achieve high standards of quality design and construction, thus fulfilling its programmatic requirements.

The complexity of the tower can be a risk when it comes to construction as the exoskeleton is the main structural element and the slightest mistake can jeopardise the whole tower. However, the exoskeleton and the relationship between inside and outside, is the selling point of the tower.
