Studio 6: Field centre and rural laboratory
Studio six spent this academic year in Pembrokeshire, on the edge of the protected landscape setting offered by the National park. For semester one, sites were located in the small village of St Dogmaels, home to a medieval Abbey and just across the river Teifi from the town of Cardigan.
During semester two, the focus moved downstream, to the Teifi estuary and the protected dune system on Poppit Sands. Studio six designed a field study centre and rural laboratory. A key focus was on understanding, appreciating, and manipulating the relationship between building and landscape so that the architecture is didactic – teaching its users about the landscape and ecology through their experience of the place.
