Project Description
Biodiverse Campus
The ecological problems of campuses are something that scientists have been thinking about. The ecology of the Cardiff campus is best represented by the birds, which also face many difficulties, such as difficulties in finding suitable housing and breeding sites and glass collisions. And as the owners of the campus, students are also faced with stress and other difficulties. Is it possible to help the birds on campus and at the same time improve the wellbeing of the students themselves.
Many people separate ecology from people, whereas in reality we cannot live without nature and ecology. If humans and birds were to collide, perhaps new ways of living and new spaces could be arrived at.
This project will create a place on campus where anyone can leave an 'eco-trace'. It is a process of collective participation by visitors and birds, involving users in the design execution phase and subsequently meeting their needs and opinions to form comfortable spaces and new biotopes that humans need on a daily basis. by planting seeds in the structure, visitors not only bring the campus to live, but also become the main designers and builders of the building. People wander through the building, surrounded by natural greenery and 'home-grown' ingredients, gaining a better understanding of the life cycle of plants and how to harvest the healthy ingredients we need on a daily basis.

Yijing Zhuang
(she/her)
Hello, I am Yijing Zhuang, an architecture postgraduate student from Cardiff University. In my study of architecture, I like to discover what is overlooked and incorporate these ideas into my designs. Regarding the design of the campus, apart from bringing a positive break to the traditional campus environment, I am also concerned with ecological diversity and the psychological changes that users experience within the space, creating a more humane intersection.
