Cabinet of the River

I was interested in the fluidity and history of the River Taff.

I investigated the theme of fluidity because, from my site visit, I was intrigued by the fluidity of the river, especially at the Blackweir bridge where there was this contrast from one side of the bridge to the other. As one is calm, and the other side is aggressive as it falls down the waterfall. In addition to this, I was interested in the history of the River Taff and wanted to combine my interests in both these two aspects of the river through a final piece.

By making a physical model that takes a form of a box to represent the ‘cabinet’ and when it is unfolded it creates a timeline showing major historic events of the river from the past. With a series of paintings to support the historical events more visually.

This shows how the River Taff has changed over time throughout history.
