Project Description

Pre-school and community space for children in Shenyang, China

This project focuses mainly on the thermal comfort for children in an extremely cold climate. The entire design objective is based on passive and active strategies required within a building to bring thermal comfort for the occupants.

This theme is the focus of my main module that is Endvironmental Design Practice. It is crucial that we as designers look beyond simply constructing buildings and look at the impact these buildings create on the people occupying it and the environment.

To achieve thermal comfort one must optimize the operative temperature of the room by various passive and active design strategies.

A low carbon building can be achieved if steps are taken during the pre-design stage to consciously choose sustainable materials and techniques. In similar context the needs of the occupants need to be considered before design as oppose to post construction fabrication.
