Project Description

Gentrification process and the right to public place in Deptford

By establishing inter-cultural communication nodes where residents participate in construction and design, residents can enhance their identity in the city. In addition, by controlling public space by residents themselves, the problem of public space power caused by gentrification can be addressed.

In the process of Deptford's gentrification, many public spaces used as inter-cultural nodes were demolished. In the face of diminishing ethnic diversity and identity crises, it is necessary to solve these problems by establishing new nodes of inter-cultural communication.

The proposal is located in an area with a large diversity of communities. The proposal seeks to redefine the identity of the residents by establishing a link with local historic heritage. Give residents the power to transform buildings and expand space independently.

It is necessary to rely on local residents to enhance the communication between different cultures or adjust the contradictions between different groups. The starting point of the proposal is how to guide residents to produce more meaningful behavior, rather than restricting their behavior.

I really enjoy my time at Cardiff. I really like one of Louis Kahn's words, 'Even A Brick Wants To Be Something''. Hope to make a better design in the future.
