Project Description

Multifunctional minimalistic intervention aims at increasing functionality of Resolven Miners Welfare and stimulating social capital of the area.

Our group focused on minimalistic intervention, trying to make the most of the existing building through introducing a multi-functional theatre space. We want to express its Art Deco heritage through design decisions throughout the building as well.

We wanted to be as sustainable as possible by reutilising what already exists. As this is a live project, we wanted to make sure our proposal was feasible in terms of costs and meeting the goals of possible funders.

The multi-functional theatre/library space was the focus of our proposal. We managed to cater to the needs of the Resolven residents without needing a new extension through introducing movable furniture and open plan layouts allowing for flexibility of use.

We feel like we achieved good value for money as it is socially sustainable for future generations by providing them a space that they can then adapt for any evolving future needs. This also meets the Welsh Well-bring of Future Generations act.
