Project Description

Wellbeing in Castelfranco Veneto

Castelfranco Veneto is a town represented by the town walls, the history influences everyone and everything in the town, reminding locals of their identity, attracting visitors to experience the great heritage of this small city. Both of the projects are situated close to the walls to constantly remind oneself of such historical importance. From a small pavilion to a adaptive restoration and extension, y intention for the design projects was to design experiences to change people from within to find peace, tranquility and happiness through a multi-sensory journey.

The multi-sensory experiences encourages one to look within themselves while also interacting with others and learning. The hope for my designs is not to disrupt the everyday lives of Castelfranco, but to create an element of tranquility and self reflection using biophilic design and learning to better lives and the environment. My primary focus was not only creating a new identity for the town, but doing so through the unused green space of this beautiful location.

My first semester projects programme consists of a info-point that leads to a workshop where together, everyone learns about new species and planting. Additionally, this design focusses on the concept of not disrupting the view of the green belt, essentially lifting the topography to allow for a accessible green roof. My second semester project The Biophilic wellbeing Hub consists of therapy spaces, both individual and group spaces while focussing on and incorporating biophilic design. This is done through a series of outdoor sensory gardens that connect the refurbishment of Mutilato house to a new build extension on the green belt next to it.

Through the journey of being introduced to the town of Castelfranco Veneto to then creating an experience to better the town and its people, I find the beauty in not only the surroundings, but of the strong history and its cultural traditions that are insperable from the town. The aim for my designs is not to disrupt the everyday lives of Castelfranco, but to create an element of tranquility and self reflection using biophilic design and learning to better lives and the environment.

These last three years have taught me to push the limits with my thinking and design work. Constantly testing and trying new methods and learning how to think outside of the box to create not just designs but experiences for users and showing my thought process uniquely through various imagery has been an exciting journey with WSA.
