A cultural centre centre housing creative reuse activities

The theme of my third-year final project was creative reuse. This meant a proposal that houses the making of art out of reused materials. Aiming to use this theme to gather people from every social group in a single location, with the creation of an inviting, informal environment. As a result, the intention of a space purely made for interconnection with others and nature was identified.

The theme of our unit for the main project was playtime. We were asked to design proposals which would house play activities of any kind. Earlier primer project, I made an interpretation for play, which was that it involved curiosity, which was the key aspect of participation and enjoyment of the play activity. A mixture of this theme with sustainability and the concept of changing identity from the previous historic study of Bristol. As a result, the theme involved the use of curiosity to change objects' identities by the reuse of these materials.

My strategies in order to achieve a welcoming, informal atmosphere included; the exposed use of reclaimed construction elements, a route through the courtyard for public interactions and exposure of artworks to the public square. The trickiest part was the reuse of materials which involved deep research into the process and availability of each material.

In conclusion, with this proposal, I am suggesting people look at the world from a different perspective. A perspective which sees the world, with all the human and non-human, as a whole. I am very proud of completing this project. Showing what I am capable of, this project has also thought me my limits and helped me see what I can work to improve for the future.
