Project Description

A festival stage for National Dance Company Wales

A stage created by light and shadows.

The stage is built at the end of the two Mount Stuart Graving Docks, defining by two transparent walls and the extended roofing. The walls, together with the roofing, are inclined to the same direction, which is due east, where the sun coming up from the other side of the bay. They are set to lead audience eyes towards the sunrise.

The ground floor, which is the stage area, is an open space, where dancers perform their shows with the background of Cardiff Bay’s sunrise. Their shows could be choreographed especially for this space where they dancing with interactions to the light and shadows.

Therefore, the performance time would be at sunrise in the morning. Lasting for about 30 minutes.

This a muti-functional stage. The ground floor is for performance, while the enclosed first floor is for meditation and relax. The first floor can be opened to the public.
