Project Description
Urban Stage used for musical theatre
The urban stage encourages sustainability and blending the construction into the site. It looks to the surrounding environment for design prompts in order to combine the final outcome with the pre-existing area.
Blending into the site is a key aspect of the design. I aimed to design a stage that would not look out of place and change the overall appearance of the site significantly. Sustainability is also important because it reduces the negative effects of the construction of the environment, especially when considering the highly biodiverse bay nearby.
As well as a stage, it also acts as a rehearsal area when there are no performances on. The building would be constructed of locally sourced timber and would be built partially beneath ground level so the concrete that would be dug out of the site can be reused in construction.
The project is a sustainable way of putting together a communal area for the local communities to celebrate Eisteddfod and the multifunctional feature of the stage means that it can still be in use during other times of the year.
