Urban Stage

This project is a proposal for enhancing the Mount Stuart Graving Docks at Cardiff Bay. The structure is intended to be used as a stage for the next edition of the Eisteddfod festival, but I wanted to take the project further and create a permanent building that would benefit the community by bringing it together.

I looked at the history of the site and designed a form that symbolizes the docs creation. The programme is inspired by the ones of the modern theatres like The Young Vick and challenges the relationship between the viewer and the performer.

The reinforced concrete used sustains the structure that seems to float above the water reminding us of the past.

I hope this design manages to strengthen the sense of community within the area and manages to bring the past back in an innovative way.
