Unit 03 : Architecture of Territories
Unit Leader
Dr Marga Munar Bauza
The Welsh Government agreed to transfer the stewardship of the publicly owned forest land around Treherbert to the local community. Welcome to Our Woods (WTOW) has taken the lead in the community asset transfer process with the determination to establish an ecological and productive symbiotic relationship between individuals, the communities of Treherbert, and its landscape. Development is supported within the ethos of eco-sustainable development to provide income, jobs, and social and cultural activity whilst aiming to restore, protect, and enhance the biodiversity of the environment and to reduce the carbon footprint of its community. WTOW is working and hosting projects related to well-being, experimental growing, building, and management of the woodland. Thus, this unit, working alongside WTOW in groups, has proposed strategies to re-territorialise Treherbert and, individually “architectures of territories” coherent and interrelated with the strategies. The strategies and architectures are defined by and able to influence the territory/ies intrinsic to their ecological and cultural dimensions and, in particular, to its relationship with the land and its people. The proposed architectures are active agents in the process of de/re-territorialisation; able to adapt, generate and react, be influenced and influencing.
