PHASE 1_ Site Analysis

The aim of Phase 1 of the project is for teams to investigate, model, and evaluate the design and performance of a complex mega building case study.

Phase One objectives are:

• To explore how the design of a mega building can be influenced by, and respond to, the climatic, cultural and contextual aspects of site and location

• To recognise aspects of environmental, social and economic sustainability in mega buildings

• To understand the programmatic brief for a unique mega building based on micro and macro site / urban studies.

• To understand climatic design and the relationship between climate, planning and form, occupant life style, energy consumption and human well- being

• To appreciate the issues involved in designing a mega building of differing functions and typologies

• To prepare for the consequent project phases and develop an understanding of structural, constructional, environmental, circulatory and servicing strategies for the case study.
